The Alykanas Dining Scene
Eating out in Alykanas is one of the great pleasures of a Zakynthos holiday. The village has a good concentration of restaurants, from traditional Greek tavernas and fresh fish restaurants to pizzerias and international cuisine. Most are concentrated around the village square and along the beach road.
Traditional Greek Tavernas
For authentic Greek cuisine, head to the cluster of family-run tavernas in the village square. Look for handwritten menus in Greek, tables covered in checked tablecloths, and chalkboard specials — these are the signs of a genuinely local restaurant. Expect to pay: €10–20 per person for a full meal with wine.
Fresh Fish & Seafood
The harbour area of Alykanas has several fish restaurants that buy directly from local fishermen. The rule of thumb: if the catch of the day is presented on ice for you to choose your fish, it's fresh. Grilled whole fish is the local speciality — try the local tsipoura (sea bream) or lavraki (sea bass).
Beach Bars & Light Bites
Alykanas Beach has a string of beach bars serving cocktails, snacks and light lunches. Most open from around 9am and stay open until midnight or later. Happy hours typically run from 5–7pm.
Practical Tips
Most restaurants do not take reservations, especially the smaller ones — arrive early or be prepared to wait during peak season (July and August). Many restaurants are cash-only, so keep euros handy. Tipping 10% is customary and appreciated.
