Renting a Car

Renting a car is by far the best way to explore Zakynthos. The island is small enough to drive end-to-end in about 90 minutes, and most beaches and attractions require a vehicle to reach. Several reputable rental companies operate in Alykanas offering daily rates from around €30 per day for a small car. Book in advance in July and August. Note: An international driving licence is not required for EU citizens; a standard EU licence is sufficient.

Scooters & ATVs

For the more adventurous visitor, scooter and ATV hire is widely available in Alykanas. Scooters cost from €15 per day. Remember that Greek law requires a valid motorcycle licence and helmet. ATVs (quad bikes) are popular for off-road exploring.

Taxis

Taxis are metered and reasonably priced in Zakynthos. From Alykanas to Zakynthos Town costs approximately €25. Several local taxi drivers offer fixed rates for popular routes — always agree the price before you get in. WhatsApp booking is widely accepted.

Airport Transfers

Zakynthos International Airport (ZTH) is approximately 20km from Alykanas, about 25–30 minutes by car. Pre-booking a transfer is strongly recommended if you arrive on a late flight. Several companies offer fixed-price transfers from €25 per car.

Local Bus (KTEL)

KTEL operates a limited bus service connecting Zakynthos Town with the main villages. Services are infrequent (2–3 times daily) and do not reach Alykanas Beach directly. Useful for a day trip to Zakynthos Town, but not practical for general sightseeing.
