The Alykanas Evening Atmosphere
If you're expecting a party resort, Alykanas isn't your destination — and that's precisely its charm. The evenings here are relaxed, sociable and genuinely Greek in character. Families promenade (the "volta") along the beach road as the sun goes down, tavernas fill with the sound of conversation and occasional live music, and the bars stay busy until midnight without tipping into the excess of the south coast resorts.
Sunset Spots
The sunsets from Alykanas Beach are spectacular — the sun sets over the Ionian Sea directly in front of the beach. Sunset Beach Bar is the most popular spot, with a cocktail in hand and music to match the mood. The harbour area is quieter and equally beautiful.
Evening Dining
Dinner in Alykanas typically doesn't begin until 8pm — this is very much a Mediterranean resort where the evening meal is a long, unhurried affair. Most restaurants stay open until midnight or later. Live Greek music appears in several tavernas on weekends during July and August.
Bar Scene
Alykanas has a handful of bars in the village centre that stay open late. Cocktails, cold beer and local Metaxa brandy are the staples. DJ nights at Sunset Beach Bar (Friday and Saturday) attract a young crowd from across the resort.
A Note on Noise
Greek noise curfew regulations technically apply after midnight, though enforcement varies. If you're in a hotel near the beach road, light sleepers may want to bring earplugs during the height of the season.
