Zakynthos Town (Zante Town)

The island's capital is an easy 20-minute drive from Alykanas. Zakynthos Town was rebuilt after the devastating 1953 earthquake in a charming Venetian-influenced style. Must-sees include the Byzantine Museum in Solomos Square (excellent icons and frescoes), the Venetian kastro (castle) with panoramic views, and the bustling pedestrianised shopping street of Alexandrou Roma.

Shipwreck Beach (Navagio)

The most photographed spot in all of Greece. Best reached by organised boat trip from Alykanas Marina (approximately 40 minutes each way). Arrive before 10am or after 3pm to avoid the largest tour groups. The viewing platform above the beach, reachable by car, gives spectacular aerial views.

Cape Skinari & Blue Caves

The northernmost tip of the island is one of its most scenic. The Blue Caves are best visited by boat from the small port below the lighthouse — 15-minute round trips run throughout the day. The traditional lighthouse restaurant at the top serves excellent local food.

Keri Caves & South Zakynthos

The southwest coast of Zakynthos offers dramatic cliff scenery quite different to the north. Keri Caves, accessible by boat from Keri port, are impressive natural sea caves. The hilltop village of Keri is one of the most authentic on the island.

Laganas Bay & Turtle Spotting

Laganas Bay is the most important nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles in the Mediterranean. Designated turtle watching areas allow responsible viewing from boats. Choose an operator that follows the ARCHELON (sea turtle protection society) guidelines.
